National Occupational Classification (NOC)
The National Occupational Classification is the nationally accepted reference on occupations in Canada. It organizes job titles into group descriptions. The information provided by NOC is referenced across Canada for a broad range of purposes.
NOC is updated every 5 years to more accurately reflect changes in the Canadian labour market. Recently NOC released the NOC 2011 Revision Information Bulletin. In response to the bulletin, CCMTS sent a letter to Human Resources & Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) to make a recommendation for the reclassification of massage therapist.
Our recommendation was that massage therapist be moved from category 3235, Other Technical Occupations in Therapy and Assessment, to a separate category of its own as is physiotherapist and occupational therapist, or minimally, to category 3144, Other Professional Occupations in Therapy and Assessment.
The CCMTS requested that as a concerned and invested stakeholder in the massage therapy profession in Canada, we would like the opportunity to provide our input in any future research or investigation conducted by HRSDC that concerns our industry.
